Life Hacks I've learred this week
Quick tips to improve your lifestyle
Murilo Mondays #5
Hey Soldiers!
In this edition, I will be sharing the most useful life hacks I’ve learned this week:
1. Meditation is overrated (for most people)
Andrew Huberman (THAT’S WHY HE;’S THE GOAT) led the study, along with Spiegel (idk who that is tbh) which showed that Psychological Sighing is more effective than meditation or other breathing protocols for anxiety relief.
A brief, data supported protocol for reducing stress around the clock is 5min/day of physiological sighing (double max inhale via the nose, then exhale to lungs empty via mouth; repeat). This outperforms 5 min/day meditation & other breathing protocols. http

Physiological Sighing is a fancy word for breathing twice (usually the first inhale is longer than the other), through the nose and then exhaling through the mouth for 2 seconds

The circled one is the Physiological Sighing
2. Books are Overrated
How to stay poor:
Read books. Do nothing.

Don’t get me wrong,
I have read plenty of books over the past two years of my self-improvement journey.
Here is my mini library I have at home:

I have bought over 230 books these are a couple of them
After some point, I realized that reading books is another form of procrastination.
Reading books doesn’t get you anywhere.
It gives you a blueprint on how to get there.
But it doesn’t anywhere.
You gotta go out there in the wild and catch some Pokemon
Otherwise, you are gonna be stuck in the same city and never get to advance your story.
3. Budgeting (Correctly)
Let’s be real,
Managing your money is the most important part
Because it is not how much you make
It’s how much you were able to keep
You see all these starts players or fighters
Made millions of dollars
Then went bankrupt
Like Mike Tyson (YES HE IS THE GOAT, NOT EVEN ALI COULD HAVE BEATEN HIM)
The best and most simple way to budget is to write down the following
How much you make
How much you waste
Usually, you can autofill how much you make because it will be the same roughly,
So you write down whenever you are going to make a purchase to see how much you will still have in the bank
Pro Tip:
Make an Excel sheet that will automagically calculate your net worth and
How much money you made that month after expenses

This is the Excel sheet I use to budget every month
4. Buy a digital clock
Buying a digital clock will allow you to move your phone out of your room
Some people have gotten their best sleep when their phones are not in their rooms.
Personally, I haven’t gotten better sleep (that I can notice)
But!
I stopped looking at my phone first thing in the morning due to this.
Which is detrimental to your health
Looking at your phone first thing in the morning changes your brain waves.
Generally your brain goes from
Delta → Theta → Alpha → Beta
But when you use your phone when you wake up, your brain goes from
Delta → Beta
This primes your brain for a day of distraction + stress

waking up and looking at your phone first thing in the morning is an absolute disaster for mental health.

The clock that I currently have in my room was one I bought for $15 on Amazon
5. Schedule the clock 15 minutes in advance
This is especially for those who are used to getting late to places
If you schedule your watch in advance you are programming your clock to give you a heads-up before an event
This allows you to have less chance of being late to the event or work, school, etc.
6. Blackout Curtains
This is something I should have thought of a long time ago
The curtains to my room are anything but blackout
Even at night time, you can still see the lights coming through from the street
So I thought I should buy blackout curtains so my room can be street alley dark.
Keeping the lights very dim/dark during sleep appears critical; even 100lux (through closed eyelids of course) can alter autonomic tone & morning insulin. Light meter app is free & does a decent job to measure. 3lux max folks. https://

This is a tweet from Andrew Huberman (you can tell I like him a lot)
Saying even a little bit of light exposure can impair sleep
Even if your eyelids are closed
This should tell you how important your environment during sleep is
You know I am actually considering getting a high-quality eyelid so that it won’t matter too much whether or not I have the blackout curtains or not
Plus, it is an extra level of safety for me.
That is all I got for this week
I am also buying some nose strips and an eye sleeping mask to see if I get any improvement in my breathing or sleeping, or both (hopefully)
Let me know what you guys think of this week’s edition and if I should bring it back some other week!
Good luck with your battles soldiers!
